Richard Xuereb
Born in 1975, Richard was the first born to the Xuereb family. He quickly became interested in his father’s work, following him around at construction sites, and in his teenage years, he got involved in the family business. To complement, his hands-on experience, Richard continued his studies abroad at the University of Manchester where he studied Construction Management.
He has always been in love with architecture and the arts. From a very young age, he loved drawing and everybody was impressed by his attention to detail. His love for lines came handy when working on designs for the company. Today, he no longer draws for work; he uses art to express himself.
When diagnosed with CTX (Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis) which severely limited his mobility, he escaped to art. It is his way of communicating with the world. He uses what is at his disposal given the constraints he is experiencing. It’s all about creating.
He can develop something from elements that others would consider as nothing. If he has paper around him, if he has a drink – these are all materials he uses. He is resourceful in his art creations; all can serve as a source of inspiration to create something, express himself and tell the story that sometimes is very difficult to explain through words.
He also became very passionate about photography which again creates an opportunity to show the world as he sees it. It’s about angles and exposing what others might not notice but is very clear and distinct for him.
He has been sharing his art with family and friends and in 2019 he decided to host an exhibition and share his vision with others.
